My Dad gave me my first camera when for my 16th birthday. I had already taken prize-winning images — even a nationwide high school photo contest — and by then, I was ready for my first SLR. Single Lens Reflex. Nothing digital or automatic about it. That Pentax K-1000 became my constant companion, I spent a fortune on developing film, and it shot my first noteworthy portraits.
And, since then, I’ve never stopped taking pictures.
Well, okay. If we have to be honest…while I was studying Public Policy at Patrick Henry College, I was always The Girl With The Camera but didn’t really take photos. Just snapshots. Lots and lots and lots of snapshots.
But the dream was still there.
Photography.
I graduated college, got a real job, spent a year living at home to pay off the school loans, and then — immediately after paying in full that loan — I used my next paycheck to by my first DSLR. Nikon. With stock lenses. I drove home with a car full of goodies and took my first DSLR-Produced-Favorite-Photo the next afternoon.
A year later, I upgraded equipment, purchased new lenses, and shot my first wedding. Now its eighteen months after that and I’ve shot another 20+ weddings, quit my full time job, and literally traveled the world with my camera.
