Clermont Historic Manor Wedding

She sat calmly in the three-sided tent, temporarily restricted by the plastic walls while he roamed the grounds of the Clermont Historic Mansion. He greeted guests, welcomed relatives, and excitedly paced the lawn. Her dress swirled around her, the flower girl giving her kisses and the ringbearer showing off his vest and tie while the bridesmaids offered water and granola bars. It was a bustle of activity, but for a moment all was quiet as she unfolded the singled sheet of college-ruled notebook paper that had just been handed her.

“Guess what?!” she grinned. “I got a letter!”

She read it smiling. Giddy, really.

Her best friend was waiting for her to emerge and she was reading his letter — her groom’s letter. The last letter she would receive until she was (finally) his wife.

“Oh Bradley!  Do you remember? Do you?”

I think she bounced up and down a couple times.

The newlyweds sat in the backseat of the Honda CRV, reliving their favorite moments of the ceremony, talking about the celebration, whispering commentary on their day. Just an hour since they’d been pronounced Mr. and Mrs., they were reveling in the moment.

“What is it, Jill?”

“Its the Random — VERY RANDOM — mixed CD you gave me before we even started dating!”

I turned the music up a little louder, letting them listen to their songs and remembering the days before there was even a “them”.  Glancing in the rear view mirror (trying not to let on that I was in awe of their contented happiness), I watched as they starting singing their first married duet – belting out the words to a Very Random Song.

And it’s a great day to be alive
I know the suns still shinin’ when I close my eyes
There’s some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can’t every day be just this good?
