Psych Tour Vancouver

I love having guests come visit me from my homeland of North Carolina.  We band together drinking sweet tea and speaking in exaggerated drawls and spreading “ya’lls” like there’s no tomorrow.  I make them eat a Tim Hortons donut.  I beg them to try poutine.  I show off my mountains.  I take them to the Pacific Ocean.  But nothing beats hosting a couple Psych fans from home and taking them on the Official Psych Tour of Vancouver.  (When I say “official”, I mean “as authorized by Jenni Marie” and when I say “of Vancouver”, I mean “of Vancouver and the surrounding areas where Psych was filmed: mostly White Rock.”)

Yes, that’s right:  the California-based comedic detectives actually filmed their show in my city.  The Santa Barbara Pier?  Actually in White Rock, BC.  Mr. Spencer’s house?  Surrey, BC.  The Psych office?  White Rock, BC.  Plus, the dynamic duo actually came to Vancouver as a plotline in the show during Extradition Part 1 & 2 from Seasons 4 & 5, respectively.

While Noah and Darbey visited Canadaland, our special project was to visit as many Psych filming locations as we could.  We found woods that looked just like ones that Gus goes screaming through in a panic.  We spotted the Dolce Gelato sign that is prominently placed during the opening dance sequence of Psych: the Musical.  We stood where Shawn and Juliet shared their first kiss. We toured the Suspension Bridge just like Shawn and Juliet did. We sat on the yellow park bench over looking the pier, just like Shawn and Juliet did when covertly meeting to discuss a case.  We stood on the “Santa Barbara Pier”.  Marveled at the Psych office.  And found houses and restaurants featured in the show.

I found some of the more obtuse locations via this website (coffee shops, restaurants, private residences) but deduced the main locations on my own:

  • White Rock Museum and Archives as the Psych office.
  • Stanley Park Lookout Point where Juliet and Shawn share their first kiss.
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge (or the free version: Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge) where Juliet and Shawn take a pseudo-date
  • White Rock Pier doubles as the Santa Barbara Pier
  • Note: Basically everything in White Rock has been used in the show.

Of course, no trip to Vancouver is complete without a cultural overview:   hockey night, Tim Hortons, Poutine, Granville Island, Pacific Ocean, and kilometers-to-miles conversion, and Canadian money. 😛

I’ve done all the work to help you have an extravagantly amazing Psyched-Out day in Vancouver: just download the itinerary for addresses of prominent filming locations and a proposed order of the tour. You will have so much fun!

    1. Thankfully, Macey, there are many very beautiful forests that have been (or could have been!) used in Psych filming! We explored the forest around the Capilano Suspension Bridge and around Stanley Park!

  1. Do you know why Psych wasn’t filmed in Santa Barbara??? Was it due to finances? Permits??

    1. I don’t know, De, but that’s an excellent question! I know Vancouver has been dubbed “Hollywood of the North” by some proud folks. I imagine its a combination of tax incentives and financial factors.

  2. How much do Psych tours cost and what is your availability for this next weekend? Please let me know, thanks!

  3. Thank you for sharing this information about Psych. My niece loves the show. We are going on a cruise beginning in LA and ending in Vancouver. One of our stops is Santa Bárbara so I looked up locations to see where it was filmed. I was surprised and delighted to learn that the majority of psych was filmed in Vancouver. I would love to show her the sites there too. Are they all relatively close to one another and would a cab driver or uber driver be familiar with their locations? Do you know of any shops that sell Psych memorabilia? Thanks!

    1. The locations are fairly spread out, Katie, and I imagine the cab bill would be quite pricey. However, the Stanley Park location is accessible by public transit from downtown Vancouver! That would be enjoyable!

  4. How much do Psych tours cost? Me and a buddy are from South Carolina and are traveling to white rock tomorrow and would love to do something like this!

    1. I created my own Psych tour with great success, Matt! Finding the various filming locations using online resources (including mine, of course!) makes for a day of easy fun!

  5. Hi Jennifer 🙂
I would love to book a shoot around Thanksgiving. I would like our family of four and I would like to include my sister’s family of four and my mom too. Perhaps in cousins, sisters and grandma and grandkids…..that way you know we may need a bigger block of time. I hope that makes sense? Call me during the day when ever is best for you. Thanks!

  6. Can’t thank ya’ll enough for hosting Darbey and Noah. They have some many wonderful memories now. I’m pretty sure it was the best senior trip an 18 year old could hope for! BIG N.C. Bear Hugs from your friends!
