Best Portrait Locations in Abbotsford

ELLEWOOD PARK BEST PORTRAIT LOCATIONS ABBOTSFORD (6)

When you’re looking for the Best Portrait Locations in Abbotsford for your family photos, your options are (almost) limitless! There are a lot of factors that go into choosing a location. You want your photos to be perfect – a reflection of who you are, and a great experience to shoot!  Ultimately, when trying to decide on the best family photo location in Abbotsford, the biggest factors to consider are the environment and your comfort.

What time of year is it? The season will obviously affect how a location looks and feels in photographs. Does it need to have a rain option available? What time of day will we be shooting? Lighting changes daily (hourly!) and is the largest uncontrollable factor for a photograph. In other words, results may vary. 😉 But if we choose a location with the season and time of day in mind, we can always use the lighting – whatever it may be! – to our favour.

Of course, the biggest factor is a simple one: Where will you feel most comfortable, most like yourself? The place where you are most at home will always be the best choice. Don’t choose an urban location if you hate the city.  Don’t hike into the wilderness if you’ll be wearing high heels. For family photos, a park in your town can be ideal – a shorter commute usually means happier kids AND a park they’ve been to before can encourage comfort faster. And remember, there is no shame in bringing along their favourite treat of choice! Think of it as a reward for beautiful smiles and excellent behaviour – not a bribe. 😉

If possible, try not to overthink the location choice: the pivotal ingredient to beautiful photos will be the lighting and the laughter. And so, here are some of the best family photo locations in Abbotsford.

Aldergrove Regional Park is a great all season option. With beautiful flowers in the spring, deciduous trees for fall (read: all the beautiful leaves!), and evergreens in the winter, there is no end to the massive variety of beautiful backgrounds. Gardner Park is another great all season option with flowers in springtime and all the beautiful leaves in the fall. Best Portrait Locations in Abbotsford: Ellwood Park

Ellwood Park is a fantastic fall option. It has fabulous autumn colours, amazing ivy features, and versatile shelters for rainy day photos. So if you’re wanting outdoor photos but the time of year means you need a contingency plan for rain, this can be a great option. The only con to Ellenwood is that it can be a bit busy – that is certainly not insurmountable, but worth knowing going into it.

Best Portrait Locations in Abbotsford: Sumas Mountain

If you’re up for an adventure, I cannot recommend Sumas Mountain enough. While perhaps not ideal for very young children, if your family is a bit older and has the capacity for some exercise along the way, Sumas Mountain provides an amazing space for family photos. With beautiful, diverse scenery year round and stunning views, this is a top spot for anyone with a wild spirit.

Best Portrait Locations in Abbotsford: Downtown Abbotsford

The opposite of Sumas Mountain is Downtown Abbotsford. If you are in a season of life that dictates a location that is very simple and doesn’t require much effort once you arrive, Downtown Abbotsford is a great option! With beautiful, quaint streets (that often feature in your favourite Hallmark Christmas movies!), small parks, and an abundance of unique and colourful murals, Downtown Abbotsford has plenty of options all in close proximity to each other, so you can get photos with a variety of backgrounds without any added stress – and grab yourselves a coffee after!

Mill Lake Park

Similar to Downtown Abbotsford, Mill Lake is a great option if you have young kids and want to keep things beautiful but simple. Mill Lake is centrally located, with public washrooms, and multiple playgrounds – great for keeping kids engaged with the promise of play time once you’re done! And of course, the lake, beautiful trails, grassy fields, wooden boardwalks and bridges, all provide beautiful backgrounds for your photos.

And there you have, the best portrait locations in Abbotsford! If you ask me for my favourite location? I’ll say the one I’m in right now. I can make any location work for beautiful photos and I’ll gladly prove it.
