“Hey Pink! Look at me! PINK!”
“Did you see this beautiful location, Pink? Can we take a picture here, Pink?”
“It’s my turn to choose our next spot, Pink! I want to go to the bridge. Do you see the bridge, Pink? Its going to be so fun, Pink!”
“Pink?” Yes, Purple? “Oh, nothing. Thanks, Pink.”
Meandering the trails at Cliff Falls Park along Kanak Creek in Maple Ridge, BC, I made the joyous mistake of telling my new little friends that my favorite color is pink because it is part of my name, so I carry around pink stuffed animals and pink scarves and pink glitter to play with while hanging out with fabulous little people! Instantly, I was no longer Jennifer: I was officially Pink. (And they were Purple and Yellow, bytheway — it was like we had code names while traipsing the forest and playing along the creek!)
Then we started telling jokes and riddles. I need to brush up on my repertoire (what’s your favorite Knock-Knock joke or funny riddle?) but these two adorable girls and their kind parents were the perfect foursome to spend my afternoon with, hiking the trail and wading in the creek and laughing along the way.
“What do you call a baby kangaroo on the look out?” (A pocket watch!)
“What goes up and never goes down?” (Age!)
“What goes up and down?” (The temperature!”
While I could list the hike as my favorite part (my first since my summer of appendicitis!), or I could say that swapping jokes was my favorite (it totally was: “What’s a pumpkin’s favorite sport? Squash!”), or I could point out that these are some beautiful photos that will forever be among my favorites, I think I will instead revel in the last few minutes of our photoshoot with both Purple and Yellow didn’t want to leave me and wanted to stay with me a lot longer: “Will you come home with us? You can come to swimming lesson and then to dinner and then we’ll play in my room after dinner. All you need to do is go to the Community Centre, turn left inside the double doors, go past the big desk and open the next door on your right. And then you’ll be at my swimming lesson!”
Ohhh, it’s beautiful to be liked. =)
Thanks Pink! These look fantastic!
