Bellingham in the Rain

To spend time in Bellingham, WA in the winter is to flirt with rain.   To combine an alleyway (my favorite!) with fabulous and quirky sweaters (Beau’s favorites!) and a classy pipe (Beau’s favorite!) with backlit raindrops (my favorite!), these photos are basically – well – AWESOME. (Said with all the humility possible, of course. :-P)

Bellingham in the rain is stunning, even if it’s a little complicated. We managed quite the operation: Beau’s mom kept herself and my flash dry with one umbrella while I managed to hold a umbrella and a camera to keep my lens dry and poor Beau experienced all the misery of being sopping wet on a chilly day.   Plus, we managed to chat with [what seemed like] half of Bellingham as they got off work and walked through the alleyway to their cars.  But jiminy — to see what we accomplished in the rain?  I say it was worth it!!

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll see the beginnings of my #rainisbeautiful project.   Ever since moving to the PNW, I’ve had a hard time adjusting to all these months of winter rain, but this year I am attempting to conquer my frustration by photographing the beauty.  So far, it’s working splendidly.  I can’t even begin to express my appreciation to Beau and Michelle for persevering in the cold and rain to help me continue this process of finding beauty in rain.

Of course, there’s a certain irony to be typing about the beauty of rain on a severe clear blue skied day.  But I’m not complaining. 😉
