Apollo Athletic Club

When I moved to Canadaland, my first step was finding a local gym that could become my home-away-from-home.  Not that I’m a particularly gym rat, but in the muddled transition to a new country, I knew it would be a good way for me to get out of the house, meet new people, and embrace those happy endorphin’s (you know, Legally Blonde style:  “Exercise gives you endorphins.  Endorphins make you happy.  Happy people don’t kill their husbands.”).

Stumbling into the Apollo Athletic Club in Abbotsford, BC, I was a wide-eyed, culture-shocked transplant fighting to find her way in a brand new world.  And it wasn’t very pretty.

A new bride, in a new country, without all the comforts of long-term friends and a full knowledge of the streets (even GPS doesn’t help when you’re that fresh-off-the-boat :-P), I would tip-toe into Apollo each morning hoping for a smile.   Not only would the staff at Apollo smile at me, they also embraced the newbie-me and welcomed me with wide-open arms.   I get granddaughter updates and photographs from the front desk staff, swap jokes and wedding planning ideas with trainers, and receive healthy-living tips from the class instructors.

So here we are, on another #thankfulthursday and I’m thankful for the friends and staff at Apollo Athletic Club for being my first little Canadaland happy place. =)

And for a little extra throwback for this Thursday, how about the time I took bridal portraits in my North Carolina gym as I documented  my life as a bride?
