Maternity Session in a Rowboat

With a grace few could hope to achieve, Catherine stepped into a wobbly rowboat and settled herself with poise and class. She exuded elegance, even in the adventurous atmosphere that comes when weaving with the current in a rowboat on an ocean bay.

Before summer had officially arrived, she had surrendered her white jacket to my assistant. She shivered, barely, but enough for me to wish the sun would warm us up…even just a few degrees would help.  We offered her the jacket back, suggested we could warm up a few minutes longer, but that stubborn strength of hers refused to buckle at the first sign of chill.

That power combination of elegant grace and stubborn strength has carried her along beautifully in her journey of life, and now Catherine stood poised on the brink of an exciting new phase: motherhood.  Celebrating in advance of Henry’s arrival the joys and challenges, the struggles and blessings, the change and the transition to come, she and Jeff cozied closer together on that chilly boat.  They relished the adventure to come (bumpy waves and all) while gripping each other with a joy that only comes when remembering the obstacles of the past, rejoicing in the triumphs, and loving each other more deeply because of the bond of shared experiences.

With a yellow chevron dress, a straw hat, and a row boat we documented the joyfully anticipated soon-to-be-born Baby as Catherine & Jeff counted  down until they hold their child and begin that very beautiful adventure. Henry is two months old now, the adventure of parenthood is only just begun, but as they love and relish their growing family and their togetherness, it’s going to be a beautiful, elegant, grace-filled, strengthening adventure.
