Jenny and I took an adventure. An adventure in our very own town. Technically, we were taking senior pictures and talking about all her future plans and dreams. But since I love adventure and adventure loves me, and since Jenny saw the adventures, too, our day in Winston-Salem turned into an adventure.
First, we hiked up four flights of stairs. In a parking garage. Did you know that the downtown Winston parking garage floors are numbered by musical instruments? So if you park your car there, all you have to do is say “I am playing the trumpet when I go find my car” and you’ll remember where you parked!
Then, we took a wrong turn and ended up in a not-so-pleasant side of town. Lets just say we high tailed it outta there. Fast. And were NOT interested in stopping at the super photogenic spot we saw. (I promise, Mom. We didn’t.)
And, finally, we found a tunnel. Yes, a TUNNEL. In Winston Salem. Downtown. If that doesn’t make us cool, I don’t know what does.
So there we were. Two girls with the most amazing name in the world. Taking unboring Senior Pictures. And having adventures.
P.S. When Jenny heads abroad to study in Ireland, I’m going to go visit her. Then we’ll have real adventures. 😛
She walked into my classroom. Maybe a teeny bit timid, maybe a huge bit excited, and most definitely a lot overwhelmed. Thirty other second graders clamored for attention, the boys antagonizing the pretty girls and the girls gossiping among themselves — usually talking about boys. (Patterns start young, thats what I learned). I was her…
My senior photos were the opposite of personalized. I went to a Wal-Mart photo studio where a grumpy lady told me how to sit, where to look, how to position my chin…all with the goal that my photos would look exactly like every other portrait session ever to come through Wal-Mart’s studio. Too bad I’m…
Adventure. That sums it up quite nicely. We hung out at a Winston Salem antique shop and found out that the owner’s son is going to run for President on the Christmas platform (because, really…who would vote AGAINST Christmas? its like opposing Santa Claus and Jesus all at once… yes, thats what he said. not…
To spend time in Bellingham, WA in the winter is to flirt with rain. To combine an alleyway (my favorite!) with fabulous and quirky sweaters (Beau’s favorites!) and a classy pipe (Beau’s favorite!) with backlit raindrops (my favorite!), these photos are basically – well – AWESOME. (Said with all the humility possible, of course. :-P)…
She stood in the middle of ornate gardens, intricate details on all the buildings and tendrils of hair blowing in the (bitterly cold) breeze. She told me about her friends, her family. her favorite music (John Mayer and Metallica), her school, her dreams, her plans-for-the-next-step. We walked around, watching painters paint and listening to birds…
These are awesome! Jenny is so beautiful and the pictures turned out so lovely. Nice work!
