She stood wrapped in his strong arms, sheltered by his love, and basking in the tranquility of his strength. Telling the story of their meeting was no easy task. Not that its a hard story to tell, but they kept interrupting each other to tell yet another fun fact or to tease about yet another inside joke or – best yet – to just enjoy one another. Their list of shared hobbies and interests is extensive, but they love teaching each other new things. (He’s a history buff, she’s a theatrical connoisseur…and they’re both brilliant.)
He makes her laugh.
He laughs at her.
She makes him laugh.
She laughs at her.
Its perfect, this love of theirs. A perfect unity of jokes and safety, a delightful mix of fun and serious.
But most of all, he shelters her. Protects her from the great wide world. But shows her the world — all at the same time.
She revels in his love, basking in his strength, and cherishes each happy moment.
Because that’s what they are.
P.S. I might as well admit it: I babysat Christina many moons ago, when she was playing with her bunny Snowball and wooing us all with her big brown eyes. Our families lived across the kudzu patch from each other, crossing the creek and forest almost daily. Can I feel old now?
