Mychal: a Bellingham High Senior
She was checking out the dresses before settling into the makeup artist’s chair and I was asking random questions. Very random questions. It’s what I do to start conversations and break the awkward ice.
“What do you think of the color yellow?”
She poked her head around the corner, stared at me like I had lost my mind, and tried to figure out the point of my question. If I’d been holding a yellow dress or suggesting yellow shoes, it would’ve made sense. I wasn’t going to make it that obvious, though; that’d be too easy. I wanted a theoretical answer to my theoretical question.
The pause was brief. So brief, I decided to not ask any more probing questions: she’s too intellectual.
“Well, my teacher told me that yellow is the color of cheerfulness and if you wear it, that’s how people will think of you.”
Suddenly, I wished I was wearing yellow. 😉
Yes, Mychal, that actually does make sense. But know what else makes sense? Coral is a beautiful color and when you wear it, people stand in awe of your gorgeousness. The end.
In a collaboration with Gown & Glove Bridal Consignment and Love Beauty Bellingham, I hung out with and photographed fabulously beautiful Whatcom County high schoolers. This story is part of a series.

Mychal! What a beauty. I love these photos! I think my fave is the 2nd one, full length with the leaves on the ground. But also, all of them.
