David looked at me incredulously. It was like he couldn’t believe I’d even ask such a thing. So I repeated my question: “Why are you marrying her? I mean, how do you love her?” He looked down at his girl (she is, after all, a perfect half-a-head shorter than he is) and smiled. He smiled at his fiancee. The woman who will be his wife. She smiled back.
That smile said it all, really. I could see that much. But then he started talking.
“You asked me why I want to marry her? I can’t explain it. And I’m not just saying that because I can’t find the words, or because I can’t figure out how to describe it. Its not that I’m trying to get out of talking about it. Its just…”
He paused. Obviously searching for the right words.
“Its just that there are no words. Its like a sunset. The most magnificent, beautiful moment possible. The sky painted with color. You can’t explain why its so beautiful. It just is. That’s like my love for Ruth. I can’t explain why its so beautiful. I just know it is.”
And at that moment, it was obvious: this is a man who is head over heels in love with his Ruth and counting down the days until she is his wife. And, um, a guy who can equate his love to a sunset? No wonder Ruth loves him so much. =)
